We started the day with breakfast at a local store.
With a typhoon near eastern Taiwan, we have been watching the weather news.
Stretching is part of our daily routine.
The typhoon spared central Taiwan but it was very windy! When the wind kicked in, we had to stop and push the bike.
Last year, I took many pictures of bridges and rice fields. This year, with a city route, I have to be creative.
My translation of places is not the best, so signs like these will help!
The night before, when we passed by Longjing, we spotted a bike trail. So since we were passing Longjing again, we decided to find it.
I think we were spoiled by the beauty of Tong Fong and Ho Fong bike trail. We were disappointed by this little trail.
Well, if you have a lemon, make a lemonade. We tried to take a photo of us in the air.
It was harder than we thought.
Mooncake Festival is close, so harvest is not too far away.
Our goal was to go around the southwest portion of greater Taichung City and crossed the bridge to Chang Hwa.
Unfortunately, when I got to this sign, I got confused! I led the group to the wrong way.
Traffic, traffic, traffic!
Aside from 7-11, this store is also our savior! It provided us with a shelter from the wind and dirt!
We were so happy to see the next town!
Lunch is always welcomed!
After lunch, with rest and extra energy, we crossed the bridge to Chang Hwa, fighting the wind all the way!
Our bright yellow uniform makes it easy for me to spot my subjects!
The bridge and the river.
A new city, Chang Hwa!
Shortly after the bridge, we hit a milestone, 100 km!
The goal that day was Chi Chi bike trail in Nantou. After many changes, we settled for Chao Tun.
Gas stations like these provided us with our much needed bathroom break!
The first character from the left below means listen. The second character means rain. The third character means shed or shelter. It means a good place to listen to the falling rain, right? Guess where I took this picture...you are right, from above! I love their sense of humor!
Our goal in sight!
More power!
An interesting sign!
With the wind and unreachable goal, we were beaten that day. We knew we will not be able to reach Chi Chi bike trail. So we need a plan B. We need to get back to Taichung City.
We came across a bed and breakfast. The price was too high. We kept asking and kept looking for a place to stay. There were many motels but no hotel in sight.
When we were close to downtown Chao Tun, we found this!
Once we got into the downtown area, I stopped and asked for information. We found our hotel for the night. Just like the previous trip, we did not make any hotel reservations. It made our daily ride more flexible.
Unfortunately, we had an unhappy experience with the hotel keeper. She promised Ester a lower price than listed, but when the hotel owner returned, she would not give us that price. We almost left and look for another place to stay.
Dinner and dessert.
Distance covered: 44 km/ 26 miles
